Taj Mahal Agra
The mention of taj mahal can be found in any Indian text book as the ‘symbol of Love’ built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife Mumtaz and it symbolizes India on global tourism and is one among the seven wonders of the world. The Taj Mahal was constructed using materials from all over India and Asia and over 1,000 elephants were used to transport building materials and is mainly built of white marble and consist a vast garden with fountains in front of it. The view of Taj Mahal is splendid during full moon when it seems to glow under the moon light.
Agra Fort Agra
Agra Fort is the other popular tourist destination of Agra. Originally it was a brick fort held by Hindu Rajputs but was later on destroyed and captured by mughals. When Mughal emperor Akbar made Agra his capital it was in ruins and he renovated the fort and rebult it with bricks in the inner core and red sandstone on external surfaces to look at present shape. The entry to this fort is through Amar singh Gate.
Fatehpur sekri Agra
If you want to see the best of mughal architecture then visit to fatehpur sekri is a must. This town 39 km from Agra was founded by Akbar after his win(fateh) in the battle and was called fatehabad then. Akbar himself supervised and took a great interest in the building this town. All the buildings here are made in red stone consist of series of royal palaces, harem, courts, a mosque, private quarters and other utility buildings.But unfortunately Akbar spent only a short time in this town. The notable buildings here are Buland Darwaza , Jama Masjid,Diwan-i-aam, Diwan-i-khass etc. The stories of Akbar-Birbal and his navratnas originated from here.
