Auli is a fascinating ski resort with stunning natural beauty in the Uttarakhand state. Bounded by the snowy peaks of the mighty Himalayas, this hilly terrain offers the enchanting sceneries of oak fringed slopes and coniferous forests. Walking through the misty slope provides one with the imposing spectacles of some of the lofty mountain ranges like Nanda Devi, Mana Paravat and Kamat Kamet.Not much famous in the past Auli has gained the status of a popular hill resort within a short span of time. Auli has gained significance as a ski resort and a winter resort because of the Presence of 10 to 20km long snow slopes comparable to the best in the world.. Auli had been the venue of Skiing Festivals since 1986. Today it also hosts National Championships, under the aegis of Winter Games Federation of India, in the months of February and March. Auli also boasts the Asia's longest - 4 km - cable car which also has Chair Lifts and Ski-Lifts. Besides being a snow sport destination Auli has now become famous also for summer holidays away from the crowd of the city. Tourist on a long vacation prefer to stay at Auli and then visit some of the other import destinations nearby like Badrinath, valley of flowers, hemkund and Joshimath nearby. Auli also provides opportunity for trekking in the surrounding areas.

For Auli you will have to first reach Joshimath which is at a distance of 13 km before Auli from where you can hire a taxi to Auli. Joshimath is very well connected to all major towns of Garhwal region by road. For tourists coming from outside Uttrakhand the best way is to first reach Haridwar which is also the nearest railway stations for Auli having direct trains from all major cities of India. Direct buses to Haridwar are also available from Delhi, Chandigarh, Kanpur and other major towns of North India. From Haridwar you can take a bus to Joshimath or can hire a taxi directly for Auli, but keep in mind to start early in the morning as it will take more than 10 hours to reach Auli through the hilly roads. If you are driving your own vehicle make sure you are good at driving on extremely dangerous roads and drive carefully. The road is cut through hill slopes along the Alakhnanda River passing right down in the valley throughout your journey upto Joshimath. Once you reach, Auli have good hotels with well furnished rooms with all the basic amenities and very well maintained. But make sure that you do advance booking before you come.

Ski Resort Auli
The main attraction among visitors of Auli is playing in snow and skiing on the best slopes in India. The season for ski extends from December to March, during this time skiing festivals and the National Championships are held. The Ski resort is run by GMVN, which, apart from providing accommodation also provides all facilities for skiing. The conditions for skiing are perfect at Auli. A 500 m long ski-lift and an 800 m long chair-lift link the upper and lower slopes, and snow beaters and snow-packing machines maintain the smoothness of the slopes. Skiers can enjoy almost 20 km of virgin slopes, which provide excellent opportunities for cross-country, slalom and down-hill skiing events.
Cable Car, Chair lift, Ski-lift Auli
Auli has something for non-skiers too - the exhilarating cable car ride which merits a visit by itself. Covering a stretch of 3.96 kms, it ascends from 1,100 mts to 3,016 mts. and guarantees a thrilling experience. Also the lower slopes and upper slopes are connected via chair-lift and ski-lifts and you can enjoy a memorable ride on them too.
Trekking - Gurso Bugyal Auli
3km trek from Auli will lead you to the picturesque Gurso Bugyal. Views of the imposing Himalayas like Nanda Devi, Trishul and Dron parvat are invigorating from Gurso Bugyal. Gurso Bugyal transforms to a green pastureland during spring season and wears sheets of snow during the winters. Perched at an elevation of 3,056mts above sea level Gurso Bugyal has mixed forest of oak and conifer. Gurso bugyal is only 1.5km from the last tower of ropeway. Chattrakund, Kwani Bugyal, Hot Spring Point and Chenab Lake are the other popular attractions of Auli for trekking and nature walk
Once in Auli don’t miss the visit to Joshimath a spiritual town of Uttrakhand. During winters the deity of Lord Badri Vishal is brought and kept in temple at Joshimath from Badrinath. This is golden chance for Hindus and not to be missed. Narsimh Mandir and Sankaracharya Tapastali are also important places of Joshimath. In Auli there is a small Hanuman temple having connection to Ramayana and it is believed that Lord Hanaumanji had a stoppage here on way to lanka when he was bringing the sanjeevani booti from higher Himalayas for Lakshmana.
