Haridwar is regarded as one of the seven holiest places to Hindus. According to Hindu mythology during Samudra Manthan when the celestial bird Garuda was carrying Amrit (the elixir of immortality), four drops of it accidently fell from the pitcher on the earth at Haridwar, Ujjain , Nashik and Prayag respectively. In Haridwar the place where it fall is called ‘Brahma Kund’ located on ‘Har Ki Pauri’ considered to be the most sacred Ghat of Haridwar

Haridwar literally means ‘Gateway to Lord’. It is sometimes also called as ‘Gangadwara’ for being the first big city on the bank of Holy River Ganga. Every day thousands of pilgrims, devotees, and tourists come to haridwar to perform ritualistic bathing on the banks of the river Ganges to wash away their sins to attain Moksha.

Every 12 years Kumbh Mela is celebrated at Haridwar and during that time lakhs of divotees turn to Haridwar. During the month of Savan, lakhs of Shiva Divotees (Kavadiyas) come to haridwar to collect holy GangaJal for performing pooja of Lord Shiva.

Har Ki Pauri the most sacred Ghat of Haridwar where Ganga Mandir and Haricharan Mandir are also situated. It is believed to be the same place where the drop of divine nectar (Amrut) fell from the Kumbh while being carried by the celestial bird Garuda.  So after every twelve years, the auspicious Kumbh mela  is organized at this place. Large numbers of tourists throng the place in evening so as to attend the famous Ganga Aarti.

An imprint of holy foot of Lord Vishnu(Hari) is present on one of the stones of this ghat so it was given the name Har-ki-Pauri.

A dip in the holy Ganga river at this Ghat is a must for all visitors without which your visit to Haridwar is not complete. Thousands of Pilgrims take the dip every day here which is believed to relive a person from all sins and a passage to the path of Moksha. The ghat is also the place where most of the Hindu rituals are performed.

Mansa Devi Temple is located just above Haridwar on Bilwa Parvat at a distance of 2.5 km trek by stairs. Mansa Devi is one of the most visited temples in North India and is one of the major Siddh peeth.It is believed that by worshiping here and  tying holy thread to the sacred tree  the Goddess Mansa fulfills all the wishes of the devotee.

Visiting Mansa Devi temple is also popular among tourist because it gives them opportunity to take ride on cable car ( Udan Khatola ) which is an option to reach Mansa Devi Temple from the town below apart from the stairs.

The two other temples Mayadevi Mandir and Chandi Devi Mandir are visited by devotees along with Mansa Devi Mandir.
