The nearest railhead is Mettupalyam, 40 km from Ooty. There are trains from Chennai, Coimbatore, Mysore and Bangalore connecting Mettupalyam. Ooty Botanical Garden, spread over a huge area of 22 hectares and with more than 650 species of flowers and trees, is a horticulturist’s delight. A wide variety of exotic and ornamental plants adorn this garden. There is also a beautiful Italian floral garden and for those who simply want to relax, there's always the green carpet of the well-maintained lawns. Another attraction here is the Toda tribe settlement towards the top of the garden. Here, they sell Shawls embroidered by Todas, tea, spices and the famous oils of the Queen of the hills.
Ooty lake Ooty
One of the main attraction among tourists in Ooty is the Ooty lake , which is an artificial lake constructed by John Sullivan, the founder of Ooty, in 1824.
