Varanasi also known as ‘Kashi’ among Hindus is the spiritual capital of India. It is locally called ‘Banaras’ and is also referred as ‘the holy city of India’. The city is situated on the banks of Holy River Ganga and is dotted with numerous Ghats hence also referred as the ‘city of Ghats and Temples’. It is one of the Oldest cities in the world and finds many mentions in Hindu Mythology as ‘Kashi’. Tulsidas the resident of this city composed the famous ‘ Ramcharit Manas’ here and a temple ‘Tulsi Manas Mandir’ on his name is situated here. The city is famous among Hindus who consider the city as the city of Moksha and consider it as the place of spending their last phase of life. It is also common among Hindus to perform the last rites of their dead family members on the Ghats of Varanasi so that they attain Moksha.

The most famous pilgrimage site in Varanasi is Kashi Vishwanath Temple dedicated to lord Shiva the presiding deity of the city. It is also believed that it is the first Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva.
